President’s Message

MARCH 2026

Spring

It’s March, and Spring will soon be here! In Ohio we used to say that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, but that isn’t true here on the Olympic Peninsula because this is God’s Country, and it’s temperate all the time. Now, if we could just go to permanent daylight savings time, things would be close to perfect.

Celebration of Life

Newcomers will be remembering our dear friend Kathy Metz-Carson both this month and in April. Kathy’s family will be holding a Celebration of Life for her on Monday, March 16, 2026, 1-4 pm Field Arts & Events Hall, 201 Front St, in Port Angeles. Newcomers’ Club members are welcome. If possible, reserve your space by the end of the day on Monday, March 9. If you are unable to reserve by then, the family says that you should attend anyway. They want to include all of Kathy’s friends.

On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, 3-6 pm, at the Solana Clubhouse, 135 Solana Pkwy, Sequim, Newcomers will be holding its own Celebration of Life for Kathy for members, past and present, who knew her. Come and join together to share your special memories and stories about this vibrant woman. She made many wonderful friendships and brightened every room she entered. Kathy loved to have fun. Let’s make this an event that she would enjoy! Please RSVP on our website by Thursday, April 9.

Food Banks

Late last year your Newcomers’ Board decided to help both the Sequim and Port Angeles Food Banks. There will be a box for both Food Banks at our monthly Luncheons, and Newcomers will transport your contributions to both food banks.  The most important food items needed throughout the year are canned proteins (tuna, chicken, beans, stews), fruits (canned, dried, applesauce), canned veggies, peanut butter, pasta, cereal, hygiene items (diapers, wipes, soap), and pet food. We have contributed $212 plus 233 pounds of food thus far. Let’s keep it going, and thank you for helping!

April’s Presidents Pick

Our April 2026 President’s Pick will be attending The Odd Couple at the Olympic Theater Arts in Sequim (414 N. Sequim Avenue). We plan to attend on Sunday, April 12, at 2 PM. Tickets are $25 each, and members can purchase them online or at the theater box office Tuesday-Friday from 1-4 PM. As of Sunday, March 8, 100 seats are still available.

For other events in March, please check the Events Calendar.

Finally, getting the word out about our wonderful friendship organization is our continuing challenge to our members. Spread the good news!
