President’s Message

January 2025

A new year, new beginnings. The sign advertising our club is at long last installed. You will see it on the right side of Highway 101 as you come to Sequim from Port Townsend.

We will keep trying new things to engage our membership. The SixTables Group coordinated any Andrea Williams will kick off in February. The first President’s Pick Tour will be January 22. We are also looking at alternatives to Luncheons for holding general meetings and presentations. Because Appetizers had been so quickly filled, leaving many unable to attend, Heidi Hansen decided to hold her Appetizer in two sections, allowing for twice as many people to attend. Strangely, fewer people signed up than usual, and there will be only one section. You never know unless you try.

And that brings me to the main theme of this message:                                                                                       We have one hundred members in the Newcomers Club. It’s a diverse, talented group with many interests. The more people who get involved, the richer the experience is for everyone, and not least for the people who take leadership.

In January we begin to choose new members for the Board and committees for fiscal year 2025-26. Next year Tom Peet will take the Presidency. That leaves a spot for someone to fill the role of Vice President and Speakers Bureau. Our Treasurer, Gary Allen Smith, will be taking over the job of Webmaster. He has the systems in place, and the job should be straight forward now. There is room for two to three Board Members at large. These are ideal positions for someone new to the club or the area who would like to become involved. It’s fun, you meet new people, and you get a chance to steer and grow the group. If you are interested, or know someone who should be contacted, let Tom Peet know.

This club has been a delight for me, and has become the base of my social network. It can do the same for you.
