October 2026 President’s Message
Our Halloween Appetizer
Fall has definitely arrived, and another Spooktacular season is at hand. Last year we had a wonderful Halloween-themed appetizer event at Warren and Nancy’s, and almost everyone came in costume.
This year’s Halloween Party will be part of our October Appetizer Event (hosted by Terry and Paula Topjun) at the Sequim Bay Yacht Club on October 29 from 5-7 PM. Come dressed in your favorite costume and be prepared to have fun!
October Luncheon
I am writing this shortly after a very successful October Luncheon. We had a solid turnout, wonderful socializing, good food, super service, and a fascinating speaker who taught us about the fantastic recovery of the Elwha River valley flora and fauna in the decade following the removal of the two dams. The improvement is remarkable! Equally engaging was her discussion of monitoring the cougar population on the Olympic Peninsula.
Events
Newcomers’ has many events scheduled for October, including the Appetizer Event mentioned above.
Newcomers’ Dining Around is at the Songohan Restaurant in Sequim on Wednesday, October 21 at 11:30 AM, and Pinochle will take place at Warren and Nancy’s home on Friday, October 30 from 1-4 PM. The Events Calendar lists all of the events for the current month and has links to each event’s webpage, where you can make a reservation for that event, if needed. Keep in mind that we will be changing our password shortly, so expect an email from our Webmaster providing the new password.
Food Banks
Before I finish, I’d like to remind you to keep bringing food and cash for the Port Angeles and Sequim food banks. The most important food items needed throughout the year are canned proteins (tuna, chicken, beans, stews), fruits (canned, dried, applesauce), canned veggies, peanut butter, pasta, cereal, hygiene items (diapers, wipes, soap), and pet food. We have collected 361 pounds of food and $407 thus far. Let’s keep it going at our November Luncheon and help others in our Communities have a better Thanksgiving.
Memberships
Don’t forget, getting the word out about our wonderful friendship organization is this year’s challenge to our members. We’ve discovered that the best way to increase our membership is by word of mouth. The great majority of applicants respond that they learned about the Club from friends and neighbors. Let’s share our wealth!
