The food is delicious and very reasonably priced, with almost all selections $18 and under. The Big Elk staff handle our more than 30 attendees in a timely fashion, and their meeting room is well suited for our club’s needs. There is plenty of parking available.

Beer and wine are available

Reserve Here

Program

The Newcomers’ Club is honored to welcome Kim Sager-Fradkin to our October Luncheon. Kim is the Wildlife Program Manager for the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe in Port Angeles, WA.

Her research involves two primary tracks: 1) monitoring wildlife response to removal of the Elwha dams; and 2) monitoring wildlife species that are important for tribal subsistence harvest (deer and elk), as well as their predators. Kim co-leads the Olympic Cougar Project, a large collaborative research endeavor focused on understanding this elusive species and improving habitat connectivity in an increasingly human-dominated landscape. She has participated in research on the Elwha River for over 20 years. Since the removal of the dams, the restoration of salmon, floodplain vegetation, and wildlife has been ongoing. Kim will share restoration success stories, from the return of salmon and trout to the positive impacts of dam removal on wildlife species as varied as American dippers and cougars.

Food Banks

Continuing this month, there will be two food donation boxes present for donations (food and cash) to the Sequim Food Bank and Port Angeles Food Bank. The most important food items needed throughout the year are canned proteins (tuna, chicken, beans, stews), fruits (canned, dried, applesauce), canned veggies, peanut butter, pasta, cereal, hygiene items (diapers, wipes, soap), and pet food. We have collected 357 pounds of food and $282 thus far.
